On Wednesday, June 22, the OFB signed a partnership agreement with the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO) of Mexico
Due to its biogeographic proximity to the French overseas territories and its rich biological diversity, Mexico is a strategic country for developing knowledge on biodiversity.
In this sense, the OFB and CONABIO have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on "Technical and scientific cooperation for the protection and sustainable use of biodiversity".
This agreement provides for several concrete actions:
In addition, the two institutions have agreed to strengthen their collaboration on biodiversity information systems, policy instruments and tools of communication, education and public awareness on biodiversity.
The OFB and CONABIO have already initiated discussions to jointly organize a side event at the Conference of the Parties (COP15) of the Convention on Biological Diversity, to be held in December 2022 in Montreal.
"This agreement shows our willingness to cooperate with Mexican institutions through different means, such as sharing our experiences, organizing joint events and perhaps joint regional projects in the future."
Pierre Dubreuil, OFB General Director
