Jointly organised by the Kenyan and Portuguese governments, the UN Ocean Conference 2022 will be held from 27 June to 1er July in Lisbon.
The Second United Nations Ocean Conference is one of the first milestones in opening a new chapter in global action for the oceans. With a strong focus on science and innovation, it will be an opportunity for States to take stock of progress towards the goal of marine sustainable development.
As a public institution in charge of protecting marine biodiversity and supporting public policies, the French Biodiversity Agency will be present throughout this international highlight, in the form of parallel events:
> Science to Action: An Ocean of Solutions to tackle the climate and biodiversity crises (27 June: 1pm-2.15pm)
This French government side event will provide a tour de table of ambitious ocean-based initiatives proposed by scientists, NGOs, international organisations and private sector representatives. The OFB will present the international Marine Protected Areas, Biodiversity and Climate Change (MPABCC) partnership alongside the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC).
> Understanding the Ocean Microbiome" (28 June: 1pm-3pm)
For this session, the Tara Ocean Foundation wishes to bring the scientific community and policy makers to the same table. On this occasion, the Tara Ocean Foundation with the support of the Ministry of Environment of Chile, the Government of Monaco, the OFB, the French Global Environment Facility and the University of Chile, will invite scientists, experts and policy makers to discuss the challenges that link science and policy.
> Blue Education Charter (29 June: 6-8pm)
On Wednesday 29 June, during the Ocean Dialogues at the UN Ocean Conference, the OFB will sign the Blue Education Charter. The OFB was at the initiative of this Charter which aims to change individual behaviour through education about nature. Through this charter, the OFB intends to collaborate more closely with European actors in marine environmental education, to promote exchanges between students and teachers and to develop the model of Marine Educational Areas throughout Europe.
