Appointed by decree of the President of the Republic on June 5, 2023, Olivier Thibault becomes General Director of the French Biodiversity Agency (OFB). He succeeds Pierre Dubreuil, who headed the OFB during its first three years, after Denis Charissoux took over as interim director in January.

The French biodiversity agency (OFB), the French Embassy in Canada, the Alliance Française and marine protected area managers from mainland France and the overseas territories are meeting until February 9, 2023 in Vancouver, Canada for the International Marine Protected Areas Congress (IMPAC5). Organized every four years, this scientific and technical congress brings together more than 1,300 marine protected area managers from around the world to implement international objectives to protect and restore these threatened areas.

Under the umbrella of the United Nations, the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP15) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is being held in Montreal from December 7 to 19, 2022. The objective of this conference is the adoption of the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), which is composed of 4 major objectives, broken down into 22 targets to be achieved before 2030 and 2050 in order to stop the biodiversity loss and to "live in harmony with nature".

On Wednesday, June 22, the OFB signed a partnership agreement with the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO) of Mexico
