How to mitigate drought and flood risks through Nature-Based Solutions?

The feedback sheets developed by CDC-Biodiversité, the French UICN Committee, and the OFB as part of the Life ARTISAN project aim to inspire public and private decision-makers, planners, forest and agricultural landowners, or protected area managers interested in implementing a Nature-Based Solutions project. They offer insights into socio-economic and ecological contexts, funding sources, stakeholders, governance, implemented actions, outcomes, monitoring indicators, success factors, and recommendations.

The Cévennes Forest project (2016-2050) strategically addresses climate change by enhancing forest resilience through diverse tree planting, which improves soil water infiltration and storage, helping mitigate drought and reduce flood and erosion risks. It also aims to regenerate biodiversity by diversifying tree species to combat the decline of chestnut trees and restore the ecosystem's full potential, including melliferous and hardwood species. Additionally, the project develops reproducible management techniques and a reference tool for adapting forestry practices to future climate scenarios, ensuring sustainable forest management in the Cévennes region.
